In yesteryear, Phil was a school teacher struggling in his efforts to teach unruly junior high students. In desperation, he took a college course in something called "instructional design." That's where he learned important characteristics of effective self-teaching materials. His students responded, and Phil became excited at the potential of creating Self-Teaching Guides.
Upon graduating with an M.A. in education, Phil found work at the UC Medical Center in San Francisco and the University of California in Berkeley where he won awards for Outstanding and Most Creative Independent study courses that he developed.
Phil went on to author several books for major publishers such as John Wiley and Sons and Tab/McGraw Hill.
When Phil fell in love with the sport of dog agility, he knew what his next self-teaching guide would be about!
