Five Point Program to Improve Your Memory

Satchin Panda writes: "As you'll learn, we are easily vulnerable to disrupting our circadian rhythm. All it takes is the slightest upset from an overnight flight, a poor night's sleep, illness, or a disruptive work schedule. The Circadian Code can be a powerful tool to manage your waking day, whether you are a parent or a child (especially a teenager), millennial or retired; regular workers, shift workers, working moms, and health enthusiasts can all benefit. If you are dealing with one or more chronic diseases, you need to read this book. No matter who you are, you’ll learn when is the best time for you to eat, work, and exercise during the day, and how to manage the evening hours so that you can get the best, most restful sleep.

"First and foremost, this book is about prevention, but you can also use this information to live better now."    LEARN MORE
How are your mitochondria doing? Mitochondria are the power plants of our cells. A typical cell in our brain has 3,000 of these little babies. They turn sugars, fats and proteins into the chemical energy our brain needs to function well. Some doctors say that 85% of degenerative diseases like mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and even worse dementia can be traced to problems within mitochondria. The problem is that sometimes mitochondria fail. They don’t produce energy like they should. When mitochondria are healthy and doing their job, our brain is humming and we are mentally alert.
As we get older, the rate of mitochondrial weakness increases and we tend to get those “Senior Moments.” The good news is that there are some clear steps we can take to help our mitochondria and rejuvenate our brains.

1. Regularize your circadian rhythm. Research shows that a healthy circadian rhythm helps to keep your mitochondria healthy. A circadian rhythm is a biological oscillation that happens about every 24 hours. Dr. Richard Gerhauser recommends that we get our circadian rhythm in harmony with the earth’s day/night cycle. To do this:
  • Get exposed to natural sunlight daily.
  • Keep our bedroom dark at night.
  • Get an app to filter blue light from our phones and tablets.
  • Minimize use of artificial light.
  • Some patients experience remarkable memory improvement from this step alone.

2. Boost your intake of DHA Nutrients.

When light hits DHA it makes an electric current and sends energy needed by the mitochondria in your brain need. You can take DNA supplements and ear more seafood. A highly rated DHA reasonably priced supplement is Nature's Way Mega-DHA, Premium Fish Oil, 1000mg, 60 Softgels available here: https://amzn.to/2Bj67eV

(Yuck. I’m not a fish eater -- correction. In the past I have not liked eating fish, but since I love my mitochondria, I am going to change my ways. Salmon oil is good for both you and your furry friend. Older dogs taking salmon oil have been reported to be as lively as a puppy.

3. Help your body make new, healthy mitochondria.

It’s easy to do this. Just exercise regularly. If you want to be the best for your dog on the agility course, stop working so hard on techniques that require less running. Instead, get outside every day and exercise. Start slow, but gradually, very gradually build up the extent of your exercise. Don't hurt yourself by doing too much too fast. Research shows that exercise boosts a process called mitophagy.

Mitophagy is the process whereby new health mitochondria are rendered. To improve your memory, you must exercise more! Do it for your dog and for those thousands of mitochondria living inside you. Get busy. Get active. Get going. Get alive. Then feel your mind sharpen and enjoy better memory.

Make a commitment. Treat yourself to something that will help you exercise more, like this Smart Band: Heart Rate Monitor Fitness Activity Tracker
Music makes exercise more fun. That's why we love to dance. Put an Echo or Google Home in your exercise area.  Then say "Google [or Alexa], Play Exercise Music"

4. Feed your brain magnesium.

Magensium  is critical for building enzymes that help make energy in your mitochondria. Magnesium threonate is said to be especially good because it penetrates the blood-brain barrier. One brand name to consider is Neuro-Mag. Available online at a reasonable price: https://amzn.to/2L09GpU

5. Get enhanced mitochondrial support. Take supplements that help deliver electrons from food to your mitochondria. CoQ10 helps your heart. It helps the mitochondria in your heart cells make more energy. It’ll do the same for the mitochondria in your cortex. PQQ does the same.

More about Circadian Rhythms

In 2017 a Nobel Prize acknowledged the field of circadian rhythms for its effect on wellness. The concept is easy to understand. The word “circadian” comes from the Latin “Circa” meaning “around” and “diem” meaning “day.”

Circadian rhythms are biological processes that happen over the course of the day. The rhythms are regulated by circadian or biological clocks. Each cell in our body contains one of these clocks and each clock turns on or off thousands of genes at different times.

The genes greatly influence our health. When we are healthy we get a good night's sleep. We wake up feeling refreshed with a lot of energy. We have a clear mind and we have wholesome hunger. We can exercise in the afternoon. In the evening we are tired enough to go to sleep without trying.

But if these rhythms are disrupted, our clocks cannot send messages in a timely manner to our genes. Our mind and body are negatively impacted. This can lead to all kinds of problems including insomnia, attention deficit, hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depression, anxiety, migraine headaches, diabetes, heart disease, dementia and even cancer.

The good news is that it is easy to get our proper circadian rhythms back. Then we can even reverse health problems and get back to good health. We already given you some tips on how to do that. The Circadian Code goes into more depth.
